Safety

At the Academy we are proud to go the extra mile in terms of safety. We believe that safety is paramount. The surf team is comprised of fully qualified and experienced surf instructors. We ensure that a ratio of one instructor to eight pupils is strictly observed. In addition a lifeguard will be on duty at lessons. The team is familiar with local conditions and observes the safety guidelines prescribed by the International Surf Association. Both John McCurry and Adam Keys have excellent experience working as lifeguards.

"The International Surf Association (ISA) is pleased to see that the French and Surf Academy has joined us in acknowledging the importance of risk management and staff professionalism in the sport of surfing and surfschools. Respect for the moods and the ways of the ocean are an integral part of the life of a surfer. Safely and efficiently managing the process of teaching surfing skills is an important issue for both the ISA and the French and Surf Academy. Their attention to staff instructor accreditation and individual instructor's skills as surfers and educators, are key ingredients for students to successfully experience what the surfing lifestyle is about and begin their own journey."

International Surf Association
Vice President & Surfschool Program Co-ordinator.

Level

At the Academy we welcome beginners and intermediate/ advanced surfers. We aim to create a fun and safe environment for newcomers to enjoy learning the sport. For intermediate/ advanced surfers we aim to create the same fun and safe environment required for you to progress your skills with instruction from world class surfers.

Surf Spots

The French & Surf Academy now operate anywhere on the South Western French Coast. Lessons can take place in Hendaye, Biarritz, Anglet and Hossegor depending on conditions.

Staff

Our instructors are experienced and have Irish Surfing Association qualifications and Beach Lifeguard certificates. They place an emphasis on safety and enjoy passing their knowledge to camp members. The instructors are also talented surfers who have gained experience the world over, even at the World Championships. The team always aims to be attentive, enthusiastic and patient.

On the Water

Camp members will receive at least 8/11 (11 day camp/ fortnight camp) lessons, provided conditions permit. We go on our day trips when conditions are not conducive to safe surfing. When conditions are perfect we make the most of it.

Equipment

All equipment will be provided by us, although participants may bring their own wet suits and boards if they so wish.

Off the Water

At the Academy we offer the entire surfing experience with lessons on water safety, ocean awareness and wave conditions.
